How to Get Rid of Adult Acne

Length: 3 minutes

What’s Causing My Acne?

The best way to get rid of adult acne is to figure out why you have it to begin with. However, there are many different causes of adult acne. For many people, the root cause is typically one of the following:

  • Diet
  • Stress
  • Lack of sleep
  • Gut issues
  • Hormonal changes
  • Certain medications
  • Genes

You might be surprised to know how much diet can affect your skin health, and specifically your tendency to break out with pimples. Acne is even less of an issue in non-Western cultures in adolescents and adults due to different diets. The Western diet is too high in oils, grease, and sugar, and too low in fruits and vegetables!

A major cause of skin breakouts is an imbalance in the gut. Scientists call it the gut-skin axis (and sometimes the gut-brain-skin axis because the gut biome is also linked to mental wellness).[1, 2] Having a healthy gut can promote glowing skin. Probiotic supplements or foods can help restore balance. Look for a high-quality formula with multiple strains and at least 75 billion CFUs.

Toxins can also cause breakouts. These can be pesticides on the foods you eat or chemicals in processed foods. Breakouts can also be caused by food allergies or sensitivities you may not even know you have. This is why cleanses can help clear up your skin. By eliminating most foods, they help you clear out your colon, simplifying your diet so you can identify trigger foods.

And of course, lifestyle issues like lack of sleep and stress can affect your hormones, which affects the amount of oil your skin produces, inflammation levels in the skin, and more.

Home Remedies for Adult Acne

Many skin care enthusiasts have constructed long, diet- and supplement-oriented programs to help get rid of acne. However, sometimes that's not the best approach. Below are some of the natural remedies I recommend for your adult acne.

1. Intestinal Cleanse

I’ve had many conversations with people who have adult acne and a common thread that affects them all is that their gut is imbalanced. The gut and skin always go together. So, the first thing I recommend people do when they have adult acne is to clean and fix their gut.

I always put people on an intestinal cleanse with an oxygen-based colon cleanser like Oxy-Powder®, and a good probiotic like Global Healing's Ultimate Probiotic. These products will replenish the gut and nurture the gut-skin connection.

2. Ozonated Olive Oil

Another product I recommend for repairing and regenerating the skin on the face is Global Healing's Skin Therapy — an organic ozonated olive oil.

It's the same product that high-end, luxury spas use for an oxygen-based facial. With Global Healing's Skin Therapy, you can get around 20 to 30 oxygen facials — without the luxury price. I recommend putting it on your face before going to bed. It’s perfect for helping to promote a smooth, even complexion by calming redness and cleansing the skin.

3. Change Your Diet

Everybody’s skin is different conditions. Some people have oily skin, while others have dry skin. When you're dealing with adult acne, it's usually oily skin. So, you need to open up those skin pores, which is why I recommend cleansing the bowel and changing your diet.

If you have acne, your skin is producing too much oil, so you want to eat healthier. A plant-based diet is a great choice if you're looking to switch up your diet.

Additional Remedies

We've also had reports of some people using Detoxadine® — our organic nascent iodine supplement. People rub it on their face, and that seems to work fairly well. You can try one night with Global Healing's Skin Therapy, the next day with Detoxadine, and then just keep your face clean.

What you want to do is rid your body of harmful organisms, and cleanse your body. In my experience, cleansing and detoxification provide benefits for everybody.

Doctors are coming up with long programs, but you don't need that. The body is made to heal itself with rest, water, sunlight, and detoxification.

Find the Natural Remedy That Works for You

What works for one person may not work for another — that’s alright. Try various remedies and find the one that works best for you. You might even discover a perfect combination of solutions that give you the results you’re after.

Going Deeper

Make sure you’ve got all the basics covered — get enough rest, stay hydrated, get some sun, and detoxify your body. It is that simple to be healthy.

The full protocol I recommend is to start with an intestinal cleanse, then cleanse the liver and gallbladder, follow up with a harmful organism cleanse, and finish with a chemical and toxic metal cleanse.

Over the past 20 years, I’ve gotten feedback from thousands of people who’ve cleansed their body and experienced a special kind of happiness from the boost it gave them.

One final thought. If you wear makeup, be aware that many types and brands of makeup have toxic ingredients, and they can clog up your pores. At a minimum, switch to natural makeup, or just stop wearing makeup for a while.

Points to Remember

Dealing with acne is never fun, but it’s especially frustrating to contend with as an adult. Adult acne can have several causes, ranging from diet and stress to hormonal changes and even sleeping habits.

Instead of covering up the concern with makeup or chemical-laden beauty products, take some of the burdens off your skin with natural remedies like ozonated olive oil, improving your diet, and even cleansing your body.

You’re your own unique person and have the skin to match, so try several remedies to see which works best for you. Take a comprehensive approach and follow a healthy, whole-foods diet, drink plenty of water, and make sure you consistently get enough restful sleep.
