Recently, officials from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration issued new recommendations regarding seafood consumption limits for women who are pregnant or nursing. This release marks the first update on recommended fish consumption since 2004. Cobalt is a naturally occurring element that does have beneficial applications. For instance, cobalt is an essential component of vitamin B12. Cobalt has been added to pigments to produce a distinct blue color. Lithium-ion batteries contain cobalt. In the medical field, cobalt-60 is used in radiotherapy and for sterilizing medical equipment. Hip replacements are also made of cobalt.
